What It Takes to Successfully Stage a Major Golf Championship

Staging Design DC began as a dedicated home staging service, and while home staging remains our most popular service, we are proud to say that we have expanded into various industries over the years. One of our most rapidly growing services is our event rentals division, including rentals for major sporting events across the country. We’ve learned through servicing these national events that there are certain things we need to do in order to ensure large-scale staging success, and to continue to grow this section of our business!

Everything Begins in the Warehouse!


What it takes to ensure a successful installation for a major event is very similar to what it takes to ensure a successful home staging - everything is just on a grander scale. First, it's crucial to establish an effective warehouse management system and processes. For us, this involves organizing our warehouse into sections based on package and item types to mirror our inventory management system. Our mover and warehouse teams receive detailed reports specifying the required items for a staging or event and their locations in the warehouse. Additionally, we have detailed loading and unloading procedures, maps and training tools, and a specific traffic flow within the warehouse to maintain organization and ensure smooth operations.



Setting the Team Up For Excellence 


Each member of our team is integral to the success of these major events, so we are meticulous when hiring new members of our operations team. Key traits that we often look for when searching for a new team member include reliability, professionalism, and adaptability. Our top priority is making sure that our team is on the same page at all times and the client experience is consistent no matter who handles the job. So, to guarantee a seamless operation, we meet weekly with our movers to provide a space where we can work on planning and improving our team. We also schedule two formal week-long training sessions each year to enhance our skills and refine our processes.

On-Site Execution 


For a one day installation, our lead team typically arrives on-site the day before the actual staging for a walkthrough to firm up delivery logistics. For the major golf championships we service, the venues we furnish are often all over the golf course so, understanding access points, where trucks are or are not allowed, and how to navigate around other vendors and work being done in preparation for each event is vital. We then meet again the morning of the installation with our entire crew to go over the game plan before the items arrive.


As with all live events on temporary sites with outside factors and forces beyond your control (e.g., weather, transportation delays, event load in conflicts, etc.), we are always prepared to think on our toes and adapt our plan accordingly to get the job done and meet our timelines all while delivering the best possible experience to our clients. Teamwork and communication are of the utmost importance for any job, but particularly when faced with challenges on-site. We’ve transported furniture under tarps and blankets to complete stagings in harsh weather. Other times, when there is not enough room for all the vendors on-site, we adjust our timeline on the fly, transport our pieces in a smaller shuttle, utilize alternative vehicles, and/or take more trips to successfully stage a space and accommodate our client and fellow vendors.

In the end, thoughtful planning and hard work pay off.  Working together on a large-scale shared project, and seeing it come to life successfully, is one of the best things about working at Staging Design. These major event installations also provide a great opportunity for us to recognize emerging leaders on our team who step up and take charge of the stagings. We’re beyond excited for the future of our team, company, and expansion in this industry!
